Liothyronine half-life
Liothyronine is the synthetic T3 form of thyroid hormone, and it clears the blood faster than the T4 form because it binds only loosely to serum proteins. Its plasma half-life is roughly 24 hours in people with normal thyroid function, so a dose is largely cleared within a day and blood levels reach a steady state within a few days. Because a single daily dose can produce a high peak and a low trough, T3 is sometimes split into more than one dose a day, while the FDA label separately cites a longer whole-body biological half-life of about 2.5 days.
